Don’t Miss the Day of the Dead Altar Contest in Puerto Morelos!
The Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is one of Mexico’s most cherished traditions, where families honor loved ones who have passed by building altars or ofrendas.
One of the most iconic symbols of this celebration is the creation of an altar or ofrenda. These altars are adorned with photos, candles, marigolds (known as cempasúchil), food, and personal items that the departed enjoyed during their lives.
The altar is not only a way to welcome the spirits of loved ones back to the world of the living but also an art form that allows families to creatively express their love and respect for those who have passed.
Here in Puerto Morelos, we are excited to announce the Eighth Altar Contest!
This event is a vibrant community competition where local schools and the general public can showcase their talent and reverence by building stunning altars in honor of the Day of the Dead. The contest will take place on Thursday October 31st at the Municipal Cemetery, starting at 6:00 PM
Teams from across Puerto Morelos will create altars that represent different states of Mexico, and their designs will be judged on creativity, adherence to tradition, and the stories they tell. It’s a wonderful way to experience the rich cultural heritage of this beautiful country!
