What October Looks Like in Puerto Morelos
Quieter streets, warm Caribbean days and the first signs of Janal Pixan

October arrives quietly in Puerto Morelos. The summer holidays are over, the winter crowds have not yet arrived, and the town settles into a slower rhythm before the busy season begins.
For visitors, that can be part of the appeal. There is more room to wander, restaurants feel relaxed, and a walk through town is less about following an itinerary and more about seeing where the day leads.
Warm Days and Changing Skies
October is still warm and tropical. Some days bring brilliant sunshine, while others may include a sudden shower or a dramatic Caribbean sky. The weather can change quickly, so flexibility is useful: enjoy the beach when the sun is out, and keep a cenote, a long lunch or a quiet afternoon at your vacation rental in mind when the clouds arrive.
The sea remains inviting, but conditions should always be respected. Before swimming, snorkeling or booking a boat trip, check the weather and follow the advice of local operators.

A Quieter Side of Town
One of the nicest things about October is the pace. Mornings begin with coffee and breakfast, afternoons invite a swim or a nap, and evenings are made for walking into town and choosing a restaurant without feeling rushed.
People searching for Puerto Morelos vacation rentals often picture the beach first. But having your own space also suits the freedom of an October visit. You can prepare an easy breakfast, wait out a passing shower, visit the market, explore the Ruta de los Cenotes or simply decide what to do one day at a time.
This is a good month to experience Puerto Morelos as a town rather than as a checklist of attractions.

Food, Fire and Music by the Sea
October also brings events back to the center of town.
On October 24 and 25, Parque Fundadores will host the Festival Parrillero del Caribe. The festival brings together grill specialists, food prepared over fire and smoke, tastings, music and an artisan corridor featuring local makers.

The program is scheduled from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. on both days. For visitors, it is an opportunity to try something different, meet local producers and enjoy an afternoon that continues into the evening beside the Caribbean.

The Beginning of Janal Pixan Season
Late October also marks the beginning of the Janal Pixan season.

Puerto Morelos has announced its 2026 “Mar de Almas” celebration for October 24, November 1 and November 2. Janal Pixan is the Maya tradition of remembering and welcoming the souls of loved ones who have died. It shares dates and some imagery with Día de Muertos, but it has its own Maya roots, foods and customs.
We will have more to say about Janal Pixan as the celebration approaches. For now, visitors may begin to notice altars, flowers and decorations appearing around town as October draws to a close.
A Month Between Seasons
October does not always receive the attention given to winter, spring break or the Christmas holidays. That is exactly why some visitors enjoy it.
It is a month of changing skies, quiet mornings, community events and the first signs of the traditions that lead into November. You may spend one day on the beach, another exploring a cenote and an evening sharing food and music in the park.
October can also suit travelers who are able to be flexible. If a spontaneous Caribbean stay sounds appealing, check our Last Minute Deals page for current openings and offers before choosing your dates.
At Abbey del Sol, we believe some of the best Puerto Morelos experiences happen when there is enough time and space to let the town reveal itself naturally. October is very good at that.
