Beach Volleyball Festival Brings International Sports to Puerto Morelos
This past weekend Puerto Morelos hosted the 4th International Beach Volleyball Festival at Playa Sol, bringing together more than 150 teams from Mexico and around the world. Players came from countries including Argentina, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Canada, Colombia, the United States, and Peru, along with teams from several Mexican states.
For three days, the beach became a lively mix of competition, music, movement, and Caribbean sunshine. Matches ran throughout the day across nine courts, giving both residents and visitors a chance to watch high-level beach volleyball right here in town.
Sports Tourism Comes to the Caribbean
The Beach Volleyball Festival has continued to grow each year and is now becoming an important sports event for Puerto Morelos and the Mexican Caribbean.
This year’s tournament brought athletes, coaches, families, and visitors into town, helping local restaurants, shops, transportation providers, and small businesses.

In the featured category, the Mexican team of Patricia Pérez and Patricia “Paty” from Mexico City took first place at the 4th International Beach Volleyball Festival. Laura Núñez and Marie Herz earned second place.
