Last weekend, Puerto Morelos made waves—literally—with the first edition of the Reef Race, a brand-new canoe and kayak event that brought sports enthusiasts together from across Quintana Roo, Yucatán, and even as far as Querétaro.

Reef Race Brings Together All Forms of Paddling”

Participants competed in a variety of categories, from Recreational Kayak and Double Kayak to Maya Canoe, Outrigger Canoe, and different paddleboarding styles.

Reef Race Boosts Puerto Morelos as a Rising Sports Destination

While competition was part of the excitement, the bigger goal of the Reef Race is clear: to promote water sports, active tourism, and greater awareness of our stunning marine environment.

With more than 40 athletes and several local clubs joining this inaugural race, it’s safe to say Puerto Morelos is on its way to becoming a recognized destination for sporting events.
