Whispers from Mother Nature: A New Book by Our Friend Michael A. Maurus

For most of our guests, the day begins with the sunrise over the Caribbean and ends with the sound of the waves. It’s the rhythm of life here on the coast. But just a few miles inland, deep in the Maya jungle, there is a different rhythm—one of bees, birds, and profound quiet.
A Story Years in the Making
For years, our good friend Michael A. Maurus has been living in that rhythm, documenting the fading traditions of the Maya Hinterland.

Today, we are incredibly proud to announce the release of his long-awaited book, Whispers from Mother Nature.
Michael isn’t just a photographer; he is a witness. He traded the modern world for a simple hut in the jungle to capture the things that move too fast for most of us to see.
More Than Just a Neighbor
If you’ve followed Abbey del Sol for a while, you know that our connection to this community goes beyond tourism. We have long supported Michael’s Maya Hinterland Project, an initiative dedicated to helping local families and preserving the sacred Melipona bees.

A Piece of the Real Mexico

It is one thing to read about the magic of the Maya Hinterland, but it is another to see it. We wanted to give you a moment of that “jungle rhythm” right here, right now.
Below is a preview of the first few pages of Whispers from Mother Nature. Take a moment to flip through, admire the photography, and start your journey into the heart of the Maya world.
Bring the Magic Home
If you want to hold the spirit of this land in your hands—or give a meaningful gift to someone who loves this part of the world—we highly recommend picking up a copy.

Every copy sold helps support Michael’s ongoing work with the Maya families and the conservation of the jungle.
